Luis “Smoothie” Soto - “Thee Original Smoothie” (Name given to Luis by band leader/trumpeter Percy Jerome Cooper “Chops”.

A graduate of Albuquerque High School, Luis primarily plays the tenor sax. His talent also lends to playing the alto and baritone sax, the clarinet and miscellaneous percussion instruments. Luis also sings lead vocals and often sits in as a session musician.

In 2015 he was inducted into then New Mexico Music Hall of Fame and received its Foundation Award. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the NM Musicians Fund in 2006 and 2012 and Saxophone Player of the Year in 2006 and 2009, a NM Hispano Entertainers Assoc. Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009, and other recognition including the Legend of New Mexico Music Award. He has toured in the US, British Columbia and Vancouver, Canada, playing with and/or opening for numerous local and noted groups, such as The Originals, Little Joe y La Familia, Sunny & the Sunliners, the Diamonds, the Drifters, Tower of Power….a few of the many. His music or voice can be heard on 28 CD’s and 10 DVD’s with various artists. Career highlights include appearance on the Johnny Canales TV Show and an interview on Sirius XM Radio (the All Elvis Station.)
